#MediaMonday – Amelia Fabiano

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Amelia Fabiano, a reporter at ABC 15.

So, Amelia, time to share!

Tell us how you got your start in broadcasting? Tell us your story!

Hey! Well, I went to a college that really focused on communications and media: Emerson College in Boston. Given this, I was constantly surrounded by broadcasting while I was trying to figure out where I wanted to focus my studies. I ended up majoring in journalism, specialized in broadcast, got involved with as many news and TV clubs as I could on campus, and interned at local news stations in Boston. My first job out of college ended up being out in Roanoke, Va., as a reporter and the rest is history.

Tell us how you came to start working in the Valley media scene?

I moved here in August 2021 from Fort Myers, Fla., which was my second TV news job. I wanted something super different from any other place I’ve lived. Phoenix is a fantastic market, ABC15 is a phenomenal team, and the Valley is just an incredible place to live – it was a no brainer to accept a job offer here!

Tell us about the outlet and types of story pitches you want?

I work for ABC15 Mornings as a reporter. We love hard news stories that have a hopeful or positive angle to them. Stories that teach our viewers something about what’s going on in the world around them and why it matters to us here in the Valley as they get ready for their days. I try to focus some of my stories on the beat I’m assigned to cover right now – education. I’ll report on anything, though! It also helps to have stories that are visual or something that would make a good live shot, since morning reporting relies heavily on our live presence.

Where did you grow up?

In New England! I was born in Massachusetts, lived there until I was 6, moved to southern New Hampshire until I graduated high school, then back to Massachusetts for college! My family lives just north of Boston now, so I consider Boston home.

Favorite type of music?

Big fan of classic ‘60s/’70s music, ‘90s/’00s alternative. Honestly, I’ll listen to everything though. If you shuffled my Spotify, there would be absolutely no pattern, lol!

Favorite color?

BLUE!

Favorite TV shows or movies?

I LOVE Outlander. Also a big Harry Potter gal (I’m a Hufflepuff!).

Favorite local restaurants or other haunts?

I definitely have a lot of exploring to do, but I love Diego Pops in Scottsdale. I also have a ridiculous sweet tooth, so Crumbl is dangerous.

Least favorite food?

Beets – yuck.
