#MediaMonday – Alexa Block

Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Alexa Block, a digital journalist for 12 News. The former college athlete came to 12 News from Washington, where she created content for both television and digital platforms.

So, Alexa, time to share!

Tell us how you got your start in broadcasting? Tell us your story!
I started my broadcast career in Rapid City, S.D., as a multimedia journalist. When I graduated from college, I applied to close to 100 stations – eager to break into the industry. I finally got the call and I admittedly had to look up where exactly Rapid City was on the map. I packed up my car and headed to the Black Hills.

Tell us how you came to start working in the Valley media scene? And how did you come to 12 News?
My journalist journey eventually took me to the Inland Northwest. I was a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor at the CBS affiliate in Spokane, Wash. After six years of field reporting, I decided I needed a change and some warmer weather. With family living in Phoenix, I chose to make the move to the Valley. My station in Washington allowed to me to transfer to our sister station 12 News as a digital journalist and social media manager. I am also pursuing my Masters of Science in Digital Audience Strategy through ASU.
