It Will Be Nice When “First” Isn’t Newsworthy
The headline: News Corp names new editor-in-chief for Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones newswire
Subtext: will be the first woman to lead the Journal
Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to see that Emma Tucker has been named the editor-in-chief of The Wall Street Journal and the Dow Jones Newswires. She joins WSJ from British newspaper The Sunday Times, where she has been editor since 2020.
She definitely has the credentials for the job having held leadership positions at The Times of London and the Financial Times before joining The Sunday Times where online readership has more than doubled during her tenure.
Somebody has to be first, right? But I look forward to the day when the adjective “first” no longer applies to individuals.
