How Large is Phoenix?
Phoenix continues to be among the best places in the country for business and growth.
World Population Review’s latest figures show Phoenix as the fifth largest city in the United States, climbing past Philadelphia. It’s also the country’s largest state capital. The 1.7 million Phoenix residents, along with the other residents of all the nearby metropolitan communities give the Valley of the Sun a population of close to 5 million. The figures align with the growth of Maricopa County, as well.
Having recently returned from the semi-annual Public Relations Global Network (PRGN) meetings, I can bet most of our international members, who all have a pretty good grasp of worldwide demographics, would be surprised to see how high on the list Phoenix appears.
Here is how the list shakes out today:
- New York City, (Population: 8,622,357)
- Los Angeles, (Population: 4,085,014)
- Chicago, (Population: 2,670,406)
- Houston, (Population: 2,378,146)
- Phoenix, (Population: 1,743,469)
- Philadelphia, (Population: 1,590,402)
- San Antonio, (Population: 1,579,504)
- San Diego, (Population: 1,469,490)
- Dallas, (Population: 1,400,337)
- San Jose, (Population: 1,036,242)
While there is still a perception of Phoenix still being in “The Wild West,” the numbers translate to the Valley of the Sun being an excellent market for product and service introductions, grand openings and other communications programs to help organizations establish themselves and connect with their audiences in one of America’s largest markets.
