CSOM – The Knight Center for the Future of News: Move fast, make a difference

I am a proud Cronkite School graduate (undergrad and masters). This episode of Copper State of Mind is particularly meaningful for me as I was able to chat with  Dr. Battinto L. Batts Jr., Dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Julia Wallace, Frank Russell Chair in the Business of Journalism, about the newest addition to the school – The Knight Center for the Future of News at Arizona State University.

Thanks to the generosity of the Knight Foundation, the Center will connect thought leaders, gather insights and disseminate innovative ideas around the role of journalism in today’s society. With three dynamic labs and an information hub the Center will also provide training, support, tools and actionable intelligence to help others adapt and lead.

We have talked about public trust in the media on past episodes. There can be no doubt that as this trust is declining so is the industry.  According to Dean Batts, the lab environment will allow for a deep dive into strategies to rebuild credibility, a look at various revenue and operational models to ensure long-term stability and how to engage new audiences while staying true to long-tie supporters.

As Julia says, “there’s so much out there about what’s broken in the media. What we’d like to do is focus on what’s right, what’s working and how we can make innovation happen even faster. That’s really our mission.”

Listen in and learn more about this innovative program.
