#CSOM – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Are Not Dirty Words

For as long as I have worked here at HMA Public Relations, we have been advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion.  We might not have used those specific words throughout the years, but our efforts for many of our clients have centered on these key principles.  Equal access to healthcare and education.  Accessibility and inclusion in the workplace.  Acceptance of diverse viewpoints and lived experiences.

We include our beliefs in our contracts:

HMA shall not, and shall ensure, that any subcontractors and suppliers it may employ do not discriminate against any worker, employee or applicant, or any member of the public because of race, creed, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability, nor otherwise commit an unfair employment practice.

Diversity, equity and inclusion means supporting people from varying backgrounds and experiences and giving them the resources they need to thrive.

We talked about trust in a previous episode of Copper State of Mind. Trust only happens when those in a leadership position develop and nurture genuine and transparent relationships with employees. Diversity, equity and inclusion are key components to this process.

The concept of diversity, equity and inclusion is making headlines. As Adrian and I discuss on the podcast, it is vital that all of us, whether in the workplace or in other aspects of our lives, create meaningful dialogue on these topics and put action behind the words.
