Washington Federal Donates $1,500 to Pima County Community Land Trust, $7,000 in Total Donations in Recent Years

(TUCSON, Ariz. – June 27, 2018) – Washington Federal, a long-time partner of the Pima County Community Land Trust (PCCLT), donated $1,500 to the organization through its Washington Federal Foundation corporate giving program. The donation is meant to help preserve a permanent supply of affordable housing for both current families and future generations. Since partnering with the organization in 2011, Washington Federal has donated more than $7,000 to the organization.

In addition to the donation, Washington Federal, which operates 31 branches statewide including eight locations in Pima County, also works with PCCLT to offer financing that is both affordable and safe to the program’s moderate and low-income home buyers.

“Together, we help qualify home buyers in the Tucson market in order to provide them with housing options that they otherwise may not have been able afford,” said Kim Dees, senior vice president and southern Arizona division manager at Washington Federal.  “During our first five years of partnership, we funded 56 mortgage loans totaling more than $4.3 million.”

Over the last two years, according to Dees, original homebuyers have begun to sell their properties to other PCCLT qualified buyers.

“As a result, Washington Federal now holds a total of 60 mortgage loans totaling just over $4.6 million,” says Dees.

The Washington Federal Foundation has also awarded other Tucson area grants to such organizations as Habitat for Humanity Tucson, Tucson Metropolitan Ministries (TMM) Family Services, Chicanos Por La Causa Tucson and more. The mission of the Washington Federal Foundation is to facilitate direct donations to community-based nonprofits that are serving the needs of low and moderate-income individuals. Since launching its program in Arizona, the Foundation has granted more than $75,000 to Arizona nonprofits. Nationally, the grant program has exceeded more than $1 million in donations in states where it has a footprint since its founding in 2008.

About Pima County Community Land Trust

Since 2010, the Pima County Community Land Trust (PCCLT) developed a portfolio of 89 homes in the City of Tucson for sale to LMI households. These properties were previous foreclosures acquired by the City of Tucson and then transferred to PCCLT. All homes were rehabilitated prior to sale. Several partnerships were in place to facilitate the acquisition, remodel and sale of PCCLT homes. The federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) 1, 2, and 3 provided funding to acquire and rehabilitate the homes. The City of Tucson acquired the homes and transferred them to PCCLT. Local contractors were selected by a competitive bid process to provide housing rehabilitation/Green Remodeling services. Housing counseling services for prospective home buyers were coordinated by local non-profit Housing Counseling Agencies. For more information please visit www.pcclt.org.
