(Scottsdale, ARIZ.) – September 20, 2018 – Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona, in partnership with Subway Restaurants of Arizona, Dasani Water, Shamrock Farms and The Be Kind People Project, rode into Navajo Elementary School in Scottsdale in September to recognize two special students – Jose and Colin – as part of its Cycle for Success program. Through a teacher-led nomination process, wherein educators are asked to submit nominations highlighting students’ good works both inside and outside of the classroom, two fifth graders were chosen to be surprised with bikes, helmets and locks, as well as Subway lunches for their entire classes.
“Without fail, I can count on Jose to be doing the right thing in every situation. Better yet, he's doing it all with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. He's not only a role model and a loyal friend, but he's as good as it gets when it comes to showing responsibility and kindness toward others. Peer pressure comes in heavy doses in fifth grade, but Jose manages to keep himself grounded and brush off the negativity. When others are groaning about the next lesson in division, Jose grabs his notebook and is first to rally the troops at his table to do the same,” says Navajo 5th grade teacher Brandy Wilson.
“It is my pleasure to teach and interact with Colin daily. He impresses me by going above and beyond to complete his assignments to the best of his ability, but he does so with humility, respect, and without showing off. Colin always puts forth his best effort and accepts all challenges in the classroom with a positive attitude. He simply wants to do what’s right and help others. It comes from a genuine place of wanting to support others,” says Navajo 5th grade teacher Samantha Bozzer.
The Cycle for Success program has been operating for more than a decade and focuses on increasing children’s self-esteem, encouraging the community to become involved in the lives of at-risk children and promoting random acts of kindness in local schools. Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona and The Be Kind People Project advocate for the health and safety of children, recognize random acts of kindness that may otherwise go unnoticed, and encourage community involvement in the lives of at-risk youth.
Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona’s mission is to provide sports equipment, uniforms, registration fees and access to major sporting events for kids who might not otherwise be able to participate. Subway Restaurants of Arizona supports kids in sports because it believes basic sports skills—teamwork, commitment and accountability—help kids throughout their lives. Subway Kids & Sports of Arizona has reached nearly 50,000 Arizona children since its inception in 1999.
