Silvia Alvarez to Serve on Esperança Board of Directors

(PHOENIX – October 1, 2019) – Esperança, a Phoenix-based nonprofit whose mission is to improve health and restore hope both locally and globally, has elected Silvia Alvarez to serve on its Board of Directors.

Alvarez is a seasoned communications professional with more than 20 years of experience that spans media relations, brand management, crisis communications, strategic messaging and positioning. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University and a Master of Arts from Middlebury College.

“Silvia brings to Esperança not only a deep understanding of communications and marketing, but a passion for the work that we are doing domestically and internationally,” said Jeri Royce, President & CEO of Esperança.  “As our organization continues to expand, we welcome the diversity of thought that community leaders like Silvia will bring to our organization.”

Currently, Alvarez serves as the Senior Vice President, Director of Corporate Communications for First Horizon National Corporation, based in Memphis, TN. She oversees external communications, reputation management, corporate social responsibility, corporate giving, fixed income and wealth management subsidiaries across the Southeast U.S.

Previously, Alvarez served as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications for New York Law School where she managed a team of marketing and digital professionals. During her time in this position, she successfully expanded the school’s digital footprint.

Her communications experience includes work as the Acting Associate Commissioner of Marketing & Communications for the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, Director of Multicultural and Charitable Communications for Major League Baseball, and serving as a consultant for public relations agencies, executing consumer product launches for brands such as SAP, Goya Foods and Absolut Vodka.

Alvarez also has a successful track record of working with senior executives, which includes having served as a strategic communications counselor and spokesperson for campaigns and government offices of U.S. Senator Corey A. Booker and New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.
