One Step Beyond Participants Volunteer at Golden Gate Regional Center Vaccine Distribution Site

(SAN MATEO, Calif. – April 1, 2021)— Participants from One Step Beyond, Inc. (OSBI) volunteered as flaggers at Golden Gate Regional Center’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution clinics from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 on March 15 – 17. The event provided an opportunity for individuals to highlight their abilities and give back to the community.

“Our participants love being active in the San Mateo community,” said One Step Beyond Senior Director of Development and Communications Christina Junker. “The Golden Gate event provided an opportunity for our members to be active and give something back to a community that has given them so much. We were so happy to be a part of such an important event.”

Golden Gate Regional Center is a state and federal-funded nonprofit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties.

One Step Beyond’s one-of-a-kind educational, recreational, employment, and life skills programming enables participants to achieve independence, self-sufficiency, and employment that allows participants to contribute to and achieve greater social participation in their communities.

  • Culinary training programs take place in a commercial kitchen emphasizing customer service, healthy dietary planning, food preparation, and proper sanitation skills that equip participants with the skills needed to seek employment in the food industry.
  • Life skills programs help members strengthen independent living skills, emphasizing money management, functional literacy, social skills, and safe community access.
  • Employment programs provide training and volunteer opportunities for self-reliance that lead to competitive or supported employment. OSBI covers the cost of roundtrip transportation for the member and their job coach to ensure success and a positive experience for the individual and the employer.
  • Recreation and fine arts programs provide music, art, dance, and fitness, emphasizing personal wellness. OSBI also has a formal partnership with Special Olympics, with more than 300 OSBI athletes participating in year-round sports training and tournaments.
