(SAN MATEO, Calif. Aug. 24, 2020) One Step Beyond, Inc. (OSBI)—the leading provider of innovative education programs for intellectually disabled adults in San Mateo, San Carlos, and Phoenix, Arizona—received a Certificate of Recognition from San Mateo Mayor Joe Goethals via a virtual award ceremony on Aug. 20. Highlighting the OSBI Employment Development Program, the mayor recognized the organization for its outstanding programs and services that enable adults who have intellectual disabilities to be independent, effectively seek and maintain employment and achieve greater social participation in their communities.
“One Step Beyond is a valuable part of our community,” said San Mateo Mayor Joe Goethals. “By encouraging local workplaces to embrace the strengths and abilities of adults who have intellectual disabilities, they are changing the mindset of the community.”
The One Step Beyond Employment Development Program includes pre-vocational and vocational programming designed to prepare participants for employment. The pre-vocational program utilizes volunteer opportunities modeled to simulate a real-life workplace. Participants learn how to model mature workplace behavior and effectively communicate with colleagues and supervisors.
“Our employment programs provide training and volunteer service opportunities that lead to meaningful employment or regularly scheduled volunteer work,” said One Step Beyond CEO Mimi Rogers. “The Mayor’s recognition of our efforts is validation that the community supports our mission and we are thankful to have the support.”
