Mi-Ai Parrish to Keynote Jewish Family & Children’s Service Brighter Tomorrow Luncheon

(PHOENIX – Nov. 15, 2022) –Mi-Ai Parrish will keynote the Jewish Family & Children’s Service 2023 Brighter Tomorrow Luncheon on Jan. 6, 2023. The former Arizona Republic publisher, Parrish is now a professor of Media Innovation and Leadership at Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and is president and CEO of Phoenix-based MAP Strategies Group.

Parrish will address the interplay and culpability of media and messaging with antisemitism.

Paradise Valley residents Allan and Carol Kern are the event co-chairs, serving in this role for the second time.

“The programs and services offered at JFCS are critically important to our community and we are thrilled to take on this leadership role once again,” said Carol Kern. “We have been actively involved in the Jewish community for nearly 40 years and have been committed to helping JFCS in this volunteer capacity for nearly 15 years.”

The JFCS Brighter Tomorrow Luncheon is the nonprofit organization’s annual signature event showcasing JFCS’ impact on the well-being of the Valley community. The fundraising event supports various JFCS programs, including primary medical care, counseling and behavioral health, domestic violence victim assistance and Jewish community services.

In 2021, Jewish Family and Children’s Service touched the lives of nearly 48,000 individuals. 97 percent of the people served are low-income and working poor. 70 percent are children and teens.

Parrish served as president and publisher of The Arizona Republic/AZCentral.com and market president at USA Today Network, where the team won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for “The Wall,” a multi-layered, multimedia examination of the southern border with Mexico.

Parrish was the first Korean-American publisher in mainstream media, the first BIPOC publisher in Idaho, Kansas City and Phoenix, and the first woman publisher in Kansas City. She continues work in diversity and inclusion in media, the weaponization of information, and coverage of justice and equity.
