Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Will Go Dark for Earth Hour on March 25

(MARICOPA, Ariz.—March 17, 2023)—Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino will once again join millions of individuals, business and government leaders across the globe in an hour of darkness on Saturday, March 25 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to demonstrate support for climate action. A symbolic, annual event where non-essential outdoor lighting is turned off, Earth Hour is a nod to climate change awareness and kicks off the Earth Month celebration in April—and Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino encourages the community to join.

Environmental stewardship is an essential pillar of Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino’s Code of Commitment as the property recognizes the importance of being responsible stewards of the environment. Participation in Earth Hour, a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund, is one of the many ways the property demonstrates its leadership in energy conservation and environmental sustainability.

As a part of the CodeGreen initiative, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino is involved in many active efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and help keep the environment healthy, such as:

  • Housekeeping only changes sheets and towels upon request to conserve electricity and water;
  • Hotel room refrigerators are powered down or put on the lowest setting when the room is unoccupied by guests to conserve energy;
  • Housekeeping turns room lights off and pulls drapes closed when the room is unoccupied;
  • Hotel soap is recycled and redistributed worldwide to prevent hygiene related diseases;
  • Kitchen cooking oil is recycled after use and repurposed into bio-fuel.

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino will also celebrate Earth Month by hosting several events throughout the month of April including an Adopt-A-Highway Clean-Up event scheduled for April 21.
