Daniel Erwin Named Camp Director for Camp Colley

(PHOENIX – Feb. 10, 2021) Daniel Erwin has been named camp director for Camp Colley, a wilderness experience and environmental education program for underprivileged Phoenix children.

As camp director, Erwin will oversee the operations of the camp, located in Happy Jack, Ariz. The camp annually serves more than 450 youth participants, primarily from the City of Phoenix.

“Camp Colley is a tremendous opportunity for kids to increase their environmental knowledge, development interpersonal relationship and leadership skills, while gaining confidence and self-esteem” said Erwin.  “I look forward to welcoming campers onsite this summer.”

Among his other responsibilities, he will maintain the physical and emotional safety of all program participants and will take part in the recruiting, screening, training and hiring process for the seasonal staff team.

“We are thrilled to bring Daniel on board to oversee operations at Camp Colley,” said Richard Berg, executive director of the Camp Colley Foundation. “This past year has been challenging for camp operators, but with protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of our campers and staff, we’re eager to bring these important programs to the kids in our community.”

Erwin (zip code: 85268) has recently obtained a Master of Natural Resources degree with a specialization in Environmental Education and Science Communication from the University of Idaho. Erwin also has a bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation and is an advocate for protecting natural resources, previously spending a year educating middle school students in a place-based experiential setting.

Camp Colley is now open for summer 2021 enrollment. Parents with children between the ages of 8-14 as of May 31, 2021 may be able to enroll for as little as $10 by visiting the Camp Colley website, completing a camper enrollment form for each participant and choosing which session the camper will attend. Registration and more information is available at www.campcolley.org/our-camp/sessions/
