  • MIHS Maryvale Family Health Center: 4011 N. 51st, Phoenix, AZ 85031

To celebrate the success of its first year, JFCS, Mercy Care Plan, Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care and MIHS are hosting an anniversary event at the Center for Excellence Family Center that is located at the JFCS Michael R. Zent Healthcare Center. The event is set to take place on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. Guests will have an opportunity to hear first-hand from a family that participates in one of the Center’s programs as well as take a tour to learn more about the program offerings.

The Maryvale community has one of the highest rates of child removals by the Department of Child Safety (DCS) in Maricopa County. It is one of the most underserved areas within the county. As many as  47 percent of children living below the poverty level, 43 percent of households are single parent and 64 percent of residents experience premature mortality.

“The Center of Excellence Family Center incorporates a trauma-informed care approach and addresses substance-abuse needs for families,” said Karrie Steving, Children’s System of Care Administrator for Mercy Care and Mercy Maricopa. “The goal is to strengthen families, enhance children’s development, health and safety, help prevent child abuse and neglect, and increase services and support for children, youth and families involved in the child welfare system.  We are pleased to have this strong partnership with JFCS.”

In addition to providing integrated care, the Center of Excellence Family Center will inform parents about community resources and provide information about child development and strategies for dealing with parenting challenges. In partnership with the Department of Child Safety (DCS) and the Comprehensive Medical and Dental Program (CMDP), JFCS and MIHS will provide integrated behavioral and physical health services to meet the needs of children, youth and families who are involved, or at risk of being involved with DCS.

“We are proud of the work that we’ve done in the Maryvale community this past year and are excited to continue implementing positive change,” said Dr. Lorrie Henderson, president and CEO of JFCS. “It’s been an honor to partner with Mercy Care Plan, Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care and MIHS to help bring whole-health care to the area as it will continue to promote stability and permanency for the families in the Maryvale community.”
