The Bob & Renee Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain Unveils Renee LaBelle Parsons Cabin
(PHOENIX – July 30, 2019) –The Bob & Renee Parsons Leadership Center for Girls and Women at Camp South Mountain, which is Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council’s (GSACPC) ADA-accessible year-round urban program center, unveiled its Renee LaBelle Parsons Cabin in time for camp this summer. The cabin, named in honor of local philanthropist and long-time GSACPC supporter Renee LaBelle Parsons who was critical to GSACPC’s completion of its $18 million Campaign for Girls in Arizona in 2018, features a mural by local artist Paige Poppe to honor the contributions and leadership of Mrs. Parsons.
The mural inside the cabin, which Mrs. Parsons helped design, features colorful butterflies that represent hope and transformation. “The butterflies also reflect three traits Mrs. Parsons believes are important for growth and leadership – collaboration, assertiveness, and empathy. Inside the cabin, girls can read about Mrs. Parsons and learn what has made her the successful businesswoman and passionate philanthropist she is today,” says Susan de Queljoe, senior director of marketing and communications for GSACPC.
Starting in July, girls were able to stay in the new cabin. The Renee LaBelle Parsons Cabin joins a host of other amenities at the Parsons Leadership Center including spaces for large and small meetings and trainings, tent and cabin camping, a demonstration kitchen and kitchen garden, Sub-Olympic pool and wading pool, a Girl Scout museum and shop, a playing field and archery range, campfire circle, and labyrinths.
