(PHOENIX – Aug. 11, 2022) For more than 20 years, Arizona State University has recognized top contributors to Arizona’s behavioral health community.  At the 23rd Annual Summer Institute Behavioral Health Awards Gala held last month in Flagstaff, Ariz., the School of Social Work posthumously honored Dr. Bob Bohanske with its Legacy Award, in recognition of his lifelong career as a behavioral health leader. Bohanske passed away on Jan. 4, 2021. Southwest Behavioral & Health Services CEO Steven Sheets accepted the award on his behalf.

“Dr. Bob Bohanske, better known as Dr. Bob, served as our chief of clinical services and training for 25 years,” said Sheets. “Dr. Bob was instrumental in leading systemic changes in the behavioral health field throughout Arizona. He was focused on quality over quantity and truly cared about our staff and clients. He was an advocate for and with others on the important issues impacting the field of psychology. He was one of the greats.”

The Arizona Behavioral Health Awards are given to individuals and agencies throughout the state for their significant contributions to behavioral health care’s improvement, access, and impact. The individuals and organizations selected reflect the highest quality standards in delivering behavioral health services to the citizens of Arizona.

Added Sheets, “Dr. Bob was committed to ensuring the voice and choice of the members we serve was at the forefront of our work.
