Arizona State University’s School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology Low-Cost Autism, ADHD and Learning Disorder Evaluations Available Beginning August 2026
(PHOENIX – Aug. 21, 2026) – Appointments are now available for low-cost psychological assessments through Arizona State University’s Counseling Training Center (CTC). Open to individuals ages 8 and older, the new service will be offered starting in August 2026 at the CTC located at ASU’s Polytechnic campus, expanding access to affordable diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning disorders.
The psychological assessment program, which serves as an advanced clinical training environment for doctoral student clinicians, provides comprehensive evaluations at a fraction of the cost typically found in the private market.
Individuals seeking an ADHD evaluation may receive a comprehensive assessment for $400. Combined ADHD and learning disorder evaluations are available for $600, while autism spectrum assessments are also offered for $600. Comparable evaluations in the local market average approximately $3,500.
In-person assessments begin in August and are available by appointment, on a first-come, first-served basis. Assessments are conducted by doctoral student clinicians in ASU’s School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology who have completed required training to provide assessments and under the supervision of licensed clinicians.
Designed to remove financial barriers to psychological testing while providing doctoral student clinicians with advanced skills in an area of need, each assessment package includes three appointments. Clients begin with a one-hour intake session followed by a comprehensive assessment appointment lasting approximately three to six hours, depending on the assessment. The process concludes with a one-hour feedback session during which findings and recommendations are reviewed with the client.
“Psychological assessments can be life changing, but they are often financially out of reach for many individuals and families,” said Jamie Bludworth, Ph.D., director of the Counselor Training Center, director of master’s training and clinical professor in ASU’s School of Counseling and Counseling Psychology. “Our goal is to make these evaluations more accessible while providing our doctoral students with the clinical experiences they need to add to their skills as behavioral health professionals.”
Following the evaluation, clients receive a comprehensive written report summarizing assessment findings and individualized recommendations. With the client’s permission, the report may be shared with schools, employers and disability service agencies to help support appropriate accommodations, educational planning and workplace services.
Psychological assessments are tailored to each client’s individual needs and currently include evaluations for ADHD, learning disorders, and Autism spectrum disorder.
“Our students complete extensive preparation before conducting assessments and work under the close supervision of licensed faculty throughout the entire process,” Bludworth said. “Clients receive evidence-based evaluations that can provide valuable answers while helping prepare Arizona’s future behavioral health workforce.”
As part of the CTC’s supervised learning environment, clients provide informed consent acknowledging that assessment sessions may be observed or recorded for educational and clinical supervision purposes. Individuals who choose not to participate in recorded sessions will be referred to another provider better suited to their preferences.
In addition to its new psychological assessment services, the Counselor Training Center continues to provide free and low-cost counseling services for Arizona residents at its Tempe location. Counseling is available each semester at no cost for students enrolled at ASU, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona, Arizona’s community colleges, and private colleges and universities throughout the state. ASU faculty and staff may receive a full semester of counseling for $80, while Arizona adults not affiliated with a college or university may receive a semester of counseling for $100. Telehealth appointments make these services more widely accessible.
