$500,000 Matching Gift Could Unlock $1 Million for Nikki’s Next Step
(PHOENIX – Oct. 20, 2026) – A $500,000 matching gift is giving supporters of Nikki’s Next Step an opportunity to double the impact of their donations and help move the planned Glendale housing community closer to construction.
The matching gift comes as One Step Beyond Inc. continues its $8 million capital campaign for Nikki’s Next Step, an inclusive housing community designed to provide adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with safe, affordable, long-term housing and a supportive community in which they can live with greater independence.
A longtime supporter of One Step Beyond has committed up to $500,000 to match contributions to the campaign, potentially generating $1 million toward the project.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity to turn $500,000 of generosity into $1million of impact,” said Jeff Swanson, CEO of One Step Beyond. “Every gift brings Nikki’s Next Step closer to becoming a reality for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and for families who are thinking every day about what the future will look like for their loved ones.”
Nikki’s Next Step is planned for more than three acres at 6612 W. Paradise Lane in Glendale. The community will include 57 one- and two-bedroom condominiums intentionally designed to foster independence, social connection and security. The project received City of Glendale rezoning approval in March.
The $8 million capital campaign represents approximately 30% of the project’s estimated $25 million total cost. Approximately $2.5 million to $3 million in funding and project investment has been committed to date, including the contribution of land.
For families of adults with IDD, the need extends well beyond bricks and mortar.
“Parents spend their lives helping their children build independence, but there is often one question that never goes away: What happens when I’m no longer here?” Swanson said. “Nikki’s Next Step is being built to provide an answer, a permanent community where adults can have a home of their own, meaningful relationships and the support they need to thrive.”
The matching gift is intended to build momentum during the next phase of the campaign as One Step Beyond works to secure the funding needed to advance architectural, engineering and construction planning.
Qualifying contributions to the Nikki’s Next Step campaign will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a total of $500,000, while matching funds remain available.
