Alexia Vega hired as Community Health Educator for Esperança
(PHOENIX – April 1, 2020) – Esperança, a Phoenix-based nonprofit whose mission is to improve health and restore hope both locally and globally, announces Alexia Vega as a Community Health Educator for the organization.
As a Community Health Educator, Vega will be providing health education and resources to the low-income Latino community around Maricopa County, developing education programs that are culturally appropriate, and building strong relationships with local health leaders, senior centers, and community groups.
Vega’s position with Esperança comes after prior experience serving the community though the Athletes for Life Program. Through this initiative, she taught classes on nutrition to children and physical activity to adults.
“Passionate community health educators are vital to our success in providing preventive health education and resources in the local community,” says Maria Valenzuela, Esperança’s Domestic Program Director. “Alexia’s passion and prior experience teaching nutrition to children and adults will make her a valuable addition to the Domestic Program team.”
Vega is passionate about helping underserved communities through education and providing resources to help improve overall health.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in health education and health promotion from Arizona State University and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
