Charitable Cheer
With companies giving back to the community more than ever during the holidays via food drives, charities, donations and more, many PR folks are working constantly to get great coverage for all the amazing things their clients are doing. With the gift of giving on my mind, there are many ways you can personally give back without making sizable money donations and organizing large events. When we think about giving during the holidays, we think online shopping and finding a thoughtful gift for a loved one. But there are also many other ways you can give back to your community during the holiday season.
Choose gifts that give back
Consider buying your loved ones items from organizations that give back during the holidays. One example is TOM’s shoes. For every pair of TOM’s you buy, the company donates a pair to children in need.
Volunteer
Most food programs rely almost entirely on volunteers. It won’t cost you a thing, but the feeling of helping your neighbors during the holiday season is priceless.
Become an advocate
Spreading the word about local volunteer opportunities and other charitable events happening in your community is a simple yet effective way to spread charitable cheer. You can even do this from the comfort of your own home! Online fundraisers and social media can be good places to start spreading the word.
Simple acts of gratitude
This could mean tipping a little extra at your local coffee shop, taking lunches to people who work during the holidays, or donating old clothing/items you don’t use anymore. These simple acts are easy to do and can make someone’s entire day.
The world is full of people in need year-round, but no time is more apparent than during the holiday season. There’s a lot to celebrate during this time, and it’s important to spread that good as far as we can.
