#MediaMonday – Brooke Chaplain

Today’s #MediaMonday features Brooke Chaplain who is a reporter for KOLD News 13 in Tucson, Arizona.

So, Brooke, time to share!

Tell us how you got your start? Tell us your story!

Little secret: Growing up, I didn’t watch the news. My parents always said the news was “too negative” and “too depressing,” so they didn’t watch either. This sparked my interest in sharing the stories of people and sharing them with an understanding, cheerful attitude.  I attended West Virginia University and got my degree in Broadcast Journalism. Let’s go Mountaineers! Before making my way out west, I spent three years in Wheeling, West Virginia, where I anchored and reported in the Ohio Valley for WTRF.

Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia just 45 minutes from “the birthplace of a nation.”

Where do you live now?

I’m a beach girl through and through, but I currently live in Tucson, Arizona. I traded in the ocean for the desert! I’m loving the low humidity!

Favorite type of music?

I honestly love all music. I think my favorites range in the folk, pop, and country genres.

Favorite color?

Yellow! It’s so bright and cheery. I think it matches this season of life for me.

Three things readers would be surprised to know about you?

I love traveling to new cities, getting an iced coffee, or cuddling with my mini-dachshund, Olive. I’m also an avid sports fan, but you only asked for three!

Do you take pitches? If so, any guidelines?

Sure thing! You can always reach out to me if you have a story idea! Just let me know:

  • Who
  • What
  • When
  • Where
  • Why

What is the lead time you need for content or pitches?

I typically need a few days to get things set up and scheduled. If an event is coming up, let me know a week out!

What is the best way to reach you?
