The Secret to Success
If you knew success was a certainty, what would you attempt to do?
I’ve been inspired by this quote recently. Upon first read, I can think of a million things I would attempt if I knew success was certain. I would write a novel, apply for my dream job or run a marathon!
When I really take a step back and think about what I want to be successful at, it’s almost exclusively related back to my career. In the world of PR, you face rejection every day – from not booking a broadcast segment to having a client reject your idea for a story. Rejection is just part of the job, and that’s never going to change.
In a perfect world, success would always be certain. Unfortunately that’s not the case – but why should we let that limit us? If you allow rejection to knock you down every time it rears its ugly head, success will never come.
This quote has inspired me to thicken up my skin and embrace rejection head-on. Especially as a new PR professional, rejection can be hard, but with every rejection comes an opportunity to learn and be better.
I know it sounds cliché, but this is the most important lesson for everyone in PR to remember: you can’t succeed if you don’t fail.
