Is there really a time and place for everything?
This week, I attended an ASU graduation ceremony where a commencement speech went from a heartfelt story of achievement and inspiration into a political endorsement.
So, this brings me to my question: is there really a time and place for everything? My answer is yes.
As a 2019 graduate of ASU myself, I have first-hand experienced the diversity of the students coming from all walks of life, from all around the world but unified by the same goal to expand their knowledge and to chase their dreams.
While some did support the remarks, others felt offended and disrespected during the celebration of one of their biggest accomplishments.
I am not here to discuss politics or my views (time and a place for everything), but I thought this served as a reminder, that you never know who your audience may be and that one simple statement can unintentionally offend someone even when your words come from a good place.
