Pancakes or Burgers?
If you read my blog post from a few weeks back, I discussed the social media uproar and dramatic announcement behind IHOP’s name change. The “b” in IHOb stood for “burgers” – an attempt from the restaurant chain to boost their lunch and dinner sales. Little did the world know, but this marketing team had some more tricks up their sleeves.
With the restaurant’s 60th birthday approaching on July 17th, the chain took to Twitter once again with another announcement that led to many mixed emotions.
The tweet admitted their name switch actually was only a marketing ploy to get people talking: “That’s right, IHOP! We’d never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers).”
I should have seen it coming, but I also thought they’d stick with IHOb for more than a month.
Do you think this is all we will hear from IHOP, or is this only the beginning?
Will IHOP find success from this marketing plan, or is the world feeling too played and betrayed?
Again, it’s time to sit back and watch as this continues to unfold.
