#MediaMonday – Shoshana Leon
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Shoshana Leon, a corporate communications professional and contributing writer to Phoenix Bites, AZ Food and Wine and Images Arizona. She recently launched Foodie Fo Sho, a resource for culinary news and events in the Valley.
So, Shoshana, time to share!
What’s your story?
I’m a University of Arizona graduate and have worked in corporate communications in the Valley for 15 years – at large global companies including Honeywell and Avnet.
Although I have experience in the tech space, my passion has always been the culinary scene. I love experiencing and sharing information about the Valley’s amazing restaurants, events and chefs.
In 2014 I attended a food blogging workshop but wasn’t sure how to start. A few years later, in 2017, I went to the New York City Wine and Food Festival and I thought my experience would be an interesting story, so I reached out to several local media and food blogs offering to write a free article. I received a response from Phoenix Bites, which posted my article about the New York City Wine and Food Festival in October 2017. That led me to write several articles for Phoenix Bites about restaurants, events, chefs and happy hours across the Valley and helped me meet some extremely talented chefs and amazing public relations professionals.
After that, I started getting invited to restaurants and culinary events and meeting passionate local food bloggers. I also started writing for other publications, including AZ Food and Wine and Images Arizona.
How did you come to start Foodie Fo Sho?
Earlier this year, I decided to create Foodie Fo Sho (for anyone who is curious about the name, I am the Sho in Foodie Fo Sho) to share information and news about the events, people and places in the Valley’s thriving culinary scene. Everyone has been very supportive and I’m having a lot of fun with it!
Favorite local haunts?
Spinato’s is my favorite pizzeria in the Valley; I also like the fresh and beautiful dishes and the charming atmosphere at Quiessence at the Farm at South Mountain. I also love dining at our beautiful resorts like Sanctuary, JW Marriott Desert Ridge and the Four Seasons; it makes me feel like I’m on vacation. Some other favorites are high-end happy hours like Ocean Prime and Dominick’s Steakhouse.
Favorite places to visit?
New York City, London and Napa
Favorite foods?
Fresh pasta, fried chicken, foie gras and chocolate soufflé
