#MediaMonday – All About EVB Live
#MediaMonday – EVB Live Edition
In case you were unaware, EVB Live – which stands for East Van Buren, where the show takes place – premiered last week on Channel 12. It’s a new news show with a twist. Hosts Tram Mai, Scott Light and Caribe Devine sit news desk-less on a casual, modern set overlooking East Van Buren Street. Within the first 30 minutes, someone reads what topics are trending online from an iPad 2. The show is mostly entertainment news with some top headlines sprinkled in between. For example, as we all know by now, football is officially back, but did you know that Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt wears a red hat on practice days, a black hat on game days and eats at Chick-Fil-A every home game? Now I do, thanks to EVB Live.
One of the segments was shot entirely in black and white which gave the show a more artsy feel. In between commercial breaks, the camera cuts back to footage of the hosts preparing for the next segments (not sure if that was supposed to be intentional or not). The mood on set is very casual and the reports are more conversational than teleprompter-like. Top 40 hits play after every commercial break, leading into the next segment which leads me to believe they are trying to appeal to a younger, trendier audience.
Throughout EVB’s first week, they asked local famous faces about their firsts. On Tuesday’s episode, Diamondbacks players shared their first pranks and politicians talked about their first day on the job – a great way to jump-start the first week.
My final thoughts: I enjoyed EVB Live. I thought it was a refreshing way to watch the news.
