#Media Monday – Garrett Archer
Today’s #MediaMonday features Garrett Archer, producer/data analyst at ABC 15. A former state election analyst, he now uses data to help identify stories that both better inform the audience and explain the “why” in ABC 15’s coverage.
Garrett, time to share!
I grew up in southern California in a small horse town about 40 miles north of LA. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in political science, with a minor in music at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Until this past spring, I was the senior elections analyst at the Arizona Secretary of State. Before that I was involved in numerous political campaigns all across Arizona for candidates from both sides of the aisle where I acted as their data strategist. I got into elections analysis as a natural progression from working as a political data strategist, which was an emerging field in the political industry when I began working in it.
I recently joined the ABC 15 newsroom as their data analyst to provide statistical depth to our storylines as well as our election coverage.
When I’m not working, I like tweeting! I’m known on Twitter as The AZ Data Guru, most recognizable by Sesame Street’s “The Count” as my profile photo. When I’m not tweeting or working, I’m spending time with my amazing four-year-old daughter.
If you have interesting data sets or quantitative studies that you would like to share with me, I would love to see them. The best way to contact me is through email at garrett.archer@abc15.com. You can also follow me on Twitter at @Garrett_Archer.
