Washington Federal Bank in Tucson Donates $2,000 to Youth on Their Own
Washington Federal, a full-service national banking institution with eight branches in Pima County and 30 statewide, was proud to donate $2,000 to Youth on Their Own, a Southern Arizona non-profit organization focused on dropout prevention, this past August as part of its Washington Federal Foundation corporate giving program. In 2015 alone, Youth on Their Own supported nearly 1,600 children to stay in school in Pima County.
“These students have determination to stay in school despite the lack of a stable home life. Many of them are ‘couch surfing,’ moving in and out of friends’ or other family members’ homes or through the foster care system,” said Kim Dees, Washington Federal’s senior vice president and southern Arizona division manager. “Through our Washington Federal Foundation, we are able to facilitate direct giving to community-based nonprofits who serve low- to moderate-income families and children like Youth on their Own on a regular basis.”
According to Dees, the Foundation is currently accepting grant requests from local organizations like Youth on Their Own across Southern Arizona. “In just the past few years, we’ve been able to award more than $35,000 in grants across Arizona,” said Dees. “In addition, right here in Tucson we have supported Rally Point Tucson – a non-profit organization focused on providing veterans, service members and their families resources in Pima County regardless of discharge status, entitlements or health benefits – by investing $2.9 million in the organization’s Rally Point Apartments project over the past 18 months.”
