Pascua Yaqui Tribe Awards Grants to Local Organizations

(TUCSON, Ariz. – SEPTEMBER 23, 2019) – The Pascua Yaqui Tribe – State of Arizona Tribal Gaming Compact provides the opportunity for the Tribe to donate  12% of its annual contributions required by the Compact to cities, towns, or counties in Arizona for government services that benefit the general public.   The Tribe endeavors to fund programs that address significant community needs.

At its 12% Recognition Breakfast, Chairman Robert Valencia, Treasurer Raymundo Baltazar and Councilwomen Herminia Frias and Rosa Soto Alvarez, on behalf of the Tribal Council and the Tribe’s Casino Operations, awarded grants totaling $283,322 to the following organizations:

Angel Heart Pajama Project

City of Tucson Ward 5

Eagles Wings of Grace, Intl.

Echoing Hope Ranch

Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse

Frank Elementary PTO

GAP Ministries

Guadalupe Post 124

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

TUSD Borton Elementary School

TUSD Lynn Urquides Elementary School

TUSD Pistor Middle School

TUSD Valencia Middle School

The grants will be used by the organizations for capital improvement projects and various educational and social programs and initiatives.

About The Pascua Yaqui Tribe

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe is a federally recognized tribe of Yaqui Native Americans in southern Arizona encompassing five communities: New Pascua – the reservation, Old Pascua – in Tucson,

Barrio Libre – South Tucson, Marana – northwest of Tucson, and Guadalupe – southeast suburb of Phoenix.  The tribe gained recognition by the United States government on Sept. 18, 1978.   The Pascua Yaqui people descended from the Yaqui people of Mexico who first settled in the United States near Nogales and south Tucson in the early 1800s.
