LifeWorks for Autism Launches a Commuter-Friendly Option for Transition Academy

(BOWLING GREEN, KY – Feb. 24, 2025) – LifeWorks for Autism is expanding its offerings with a new program, On-The-Go, designed to provide the same transformative curriculum as their renowned Transition Academy’s Living & Learning Community, tailored for young adults who live in the greater Bowling Green area and prefer to commute. It’s another way LifeWorks is helping young adults on the spectrum transition to independence. LifeWorks is a supportive learning community for autistic young adults as they transition to independent living and employment.

On-The-Go is designed to help young adults with autism by providing them with relevant job training, practical life skills, and the social abilities they need for independence. This new option ensures that participants can benefit from the same robust educational framework the Transition Academy’s Living & Learning Community offers without the need to relocate.

Participants will engage in a comprehensive program that mirrors the highly successful Transition Academy. The curriculum covers key areas such as:

  • Job Skills Training: Hands-on experience and practical workshops to prepare for employment.
  • Independent Living Skills: Lessons on managing finances, cooking, personal care, and household responsibilities.
  • Social Skills Development: Activities and guidance to enhance communication, teamwork, and relationships.

“On-The-Go represents a significant step for Lifeworks for Autism in providing essential resources and support to young adults in the autism community,” said Hendrix Brakefield, Lifeworks for Autism Program Director. “This offering ensures that more individuals can access our comprehensive curriculum while remaining connected to their local support networks. By equipping these young adults with vital job skills, daily living skills, and social competencies, we are empowering them to achieve their fullest potential and lead fulfilling, independent lives.”

Nearly 90 percent of Lifeworks graduates are employed, a significant contrast to the national average of just 15 percent of adults with autism who have employment. Enrollment for “On -The-Go” is now open, and interested individuals are encouraged to visit the Lifeworks for Autism website or contact the organization directly for more information.

Limited scholarships are available for all participants, including those enrolled in the Transition Academy’s Living & Learning Community and the On-The-Go program, ensuring that financial support is accessible to everyone.

About LifeWorks for Autism

LifeWorks for Autism includes the Transition Academy’s Living & Learning Community, a two-year program, which was established in 2020 and is designed to provide the instruction and practice necessary to equip its participants with the tools to obtain gainful employment and succeed in living on their own. The newly established LifeWorks On-The-Go is a post-secondary program serving autistic young adults living within driving distance of the main campus to assist with supported employment opportunities and a comprehensive independent living curriculum.
