Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Salutes Veterans Throughout the Month of November
(MARICOPA, Ariz. – Dec. 15, 2020) – Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino, long-known for its corporate giving and community support, honored Veterans and active military throughout the month of November. Events organized by Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino’s HERO committee and the SALUTE Business Impact Group created awareness and offered support for all community Veterans and active military as well as the organization’s 50+ Veteran employees.
“America celebrates Veterans Day on November 11 but we believe it’s important to celebrate Veterans and active military all year long,” says Michael Kintner, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino general manager and SALUTE sponsor. “My dad is a Veteran. I grew up learning the value of service, hard work and sacrifice. Supporting and participating in programs that value servant leadership is just one of the important ways we support the Maricopa community and our employees.”
The Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino SALUTE Business Impact Group (BIG) actively seeks to bring together employees who are Veterans and Veteran allies who embrace the core values of duty, honor and selfless service. The purpose is to cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture through grassroots efforts in assisting Veterans in a variety of ways including fundraisers, donation drives and of course volunteer opportunities.
HERO is an employee-based volunteer program in which Harrah’s staff and their families make noteworthy and visible contributions to the community by donating their time, skills, expertise and compassion to dozens of volunteer projects throughout the community.
November initiatives that honored Veterans and active military included:
- Individuals volunteered at a small, physically distanced Veterans’ Caravan parade serving 200+ service members with a goodie bag and to-go breakfast provided by donations from surrounding community organizations.
- A $3,000 donation to the Diana Gregory Outreach Services supported the organization’s Veggies for Vets program that provides fresh vegetables to seniors and veterans throughout the Valley. Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino employees supported the distribution efforts by packing more than 200 bags of fresh fruit and vegetables at the Phoenix VA Hospital. Harrah’s has participated in Veggies for Veterans for the past three years.
- Veterans’ Parking – The SALUTE Business Impact Group installed two dedicated parking spots for Veterans and active military.
- On November 11, all Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Veterans received lapel pins that denoted branch of military service.
- An employee Veteran drawing for a chance to win one of four American Flags.
- All casino guests who are Veterans and active duty members received $10 in free slot play.
