AAED’s April Workforce Symposium to Address “The War For Talent”

(PHOENIX – March 18, 2019) – The Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) will hold a Workforce Symposium, “The War for Talent,” April 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at 2901 N. Seventh St. in Phoenix.

Fred N. Ingersoll, director of organizational and individual development at TC Enterprise LLC and apprenticeship director at KATERRA, will provide the keynote address during lunch.  He will share his insight into how companies can increase employee engagement and how retaining a current workforce is more cost-effective than recruiting a new one.

The symposium will also feature a session led by Trevor Stokes, workforce program manager, Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity.  The session, “Preview of the Battlefield,” will focus on economic and labor market indicators and how the numbers drive business investment decisions, public and private workforce investments, career planning and preparation, education and training offerings and personnel hiring.

There will also be a panel discussion in which Denise Gredler, founder and CEO of BestCompaniesAZ, and Stephanie Scher, social media channel manager for Vanguard Human Resources, will discuss “Lessons from the Frontline,” including what unique ways businesses are using to attract and retain talent.  They will share their ideas for best practices, along with how to refine the talent search, what skill sets are needed, how the employer mindset is shifting and how new talent is being recruited to rural areas.

Additionally, Arizona Career Readiness Credential will provide a presentation on bettering employer/employee matches.

The cost of the symposium is $75 for AAED members and $100 for non-members if registered by noon on April 4.  Late registration is $125.  To register, visit www.aaed.com/event/april9.

For more information, call AAED at (602) 240-AAED (2233), or visit www.aaed.com.   Vegetarian meals must be requested in advance.

AAED, founded in 1974, has a mission to serve as Arizona’s unified voice advocating for responsible economic development through an effective program of professional education, public policy, and collaboration.
