#MediaMonday – Geeks Who Eat
As we hope you know by now, each Monday, we share a blog post to help our readers get to know the media just a little bit better.
With a TWIST!
This isn’t necessary about pitch tips or creating media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week!
This month, we are actually taking our “twist” even further…with a theme! In the weeks leading up to Arizona’s Spring Restaurant Week, HMATime is profiling some of our favorite food-focused media friends.
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Sarah Eikner and Matthew Stubbs, founders of Geeks Who Eat. Founded in 2015, Geeks Who Eat is more than just a food blog. Eikner and Stubbs aim to be more than just recipes and restaurant reviews (not that those aren’t a huge part of what they are); they want to be readers’ allies in navigating the kitchen and culinary scene.
So, Sarah and Matthew, what do what do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?
Sarah: Known in the blogging world as DC, I started blogging at DAPs Magic in 2009. My focus was primarily Disney and other geeky topics but, I wanted to write about more. After realizing that in addition to geek culture, my passion was food (I have even dined at some of the culinary world’s finest establishments such as The French Laundry), Geek Eats was born. When it became apparent that writing for someone’s blog just wouldn’t be enough, I made the tough decision to only periodically contribute to Geek Eats. With the encouragement and support of Matthew, the Geeks Who Eat dream became a reality. Matthew didn’t know what was coming for him when he started dating me!
Matthew: Little did I know she would be dragging me into the world of social media (kicking and screaming) and food events! Sarah says I am the brains behind the entire technical structure of Geeks Who Eat, but she gives me too much credit! I am a web developer by day and gamer by night, so this side of the business was a natural fit for me. I am also very interested in food photography – all photography, really – and through this site, I am able to really develop up it. Side fun fact – I also love to dream up unique drinks and cocktails, so I am always impressed at with the many mixologists in town come up with each day.
Sarah: This year, we both decided to make Geeks Who Eat more than just a hobby. Now with me manning Geeks Who Eat Headquarters full time, we are ready show everyone that the culinary scene is accessible to anyone. Whether you are a home cook, a frequent restaurant diner, or a cocktail enthusiast, there is something for you. We participate in a lot of geeky events and it always seems that geeks do not only geek out about pop culture but also food. However, most seem to feel intimidated or keep it behind their other geekdoms. We really want our readers to let their Foodie Flags fly and geek out over culinary culture as it really does intersect with pop culture.
