#Media Monday – Marty Manning
It’s a very easy – make that KEZ – morning here at HMATime!
Why, you ask?
Because today’s Media Monday profile comes to us from KEZ’s own Marty Manning!
Just for fun, Marty dictated this using his new Dragon voice recognition software. HMATime is pleased to note that this is his first Dragon-created message.
For those of you who are new to HMATime, each Monday, we post a blog to help our readers get to know the media just a little bit better.
With a TWIST!
No, we aren’t posting story pitch tips or media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week! A full run-down of everyone we profile is always available here.
But this week is all about Marty. So, Marty, time to share!
What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?
Well first of all, I’m not a native but a lot of my brothers and sisters are. We came to Arizona in 1952 when they were about 150,000 people living in Phoenix. I was a theater major at Phoenix College and got my start in radio doing voice work at underground radio KCAC in the late ‘60s. We all moved from KCAC to KDKB when it began in 1971 and I’ve been working in radio pretty much ever since. Along the way I worked in Austin and Houston, the San Jose area and Cincinnati. I returned to Phoenix in 1985 to work at 99.9 FM (then KLZI) and have been there ever since. In 1989 I started doing live traffic reports on location on KEZ and for a couple of years on Channel 3 as well. Since then
I’ve done about 5,000 live remotes and spent three fun-filled years with Maggie Brock doing the afternoon show as Maggie and Marty.
Of course the real highlight of all those years was working 20 years with Beth & Bill, and of course riding the wave of technology as we surf into the future. These days I do a lot of video for a radio station… go figure!
