Max Ashton of Brophy College Preparatory Awarded $25,000 AXA Achievement College Scholarship

AXA Advisors Southwest, a leading provider of financial services for consumers and businesses, has announced that Max Ashton, a high school senior attending Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix will receive $25,000 as a national winner of the 2014 AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report.

Ashton is one of 52 students – one from each state, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico – that has been awarded scholarships of $10,000. Of those 52 students, 10 – including Ashton – were chosen to receive an additional $15,000 scholarship award. All of the scholarship recipients are graduating high school seniors who demonstrated ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals and the ability to succeed in college.

“Max, who is blind, has taken on amazing fetes that have tested his mind, body and spirit – such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and swimming to Alcatraz – all in the name of raising more than $250,000 for the Arizona Foundation for Blind Children,” says Philip Kim, retirement benefits director at AXA Advisors Southwest and office champion of the scholarship program. “Some of the challenges he faced included altitude sickness, subzero temperatures, fatigue, sleeplessness and doubt. But it was all worth it to help so many children through the Foundation.”

“Confidence comes from success. Success comes from trying. The will to try comes from within. I am redefining standards,” says Ashton.

In addition to Ashton, AXA Advisors Southwest is pleased to announce five fellow Arizona students will each receive $2,000 as winners of the 2014 AXA Achievement Community Scholarship program. They are:
