#MediaMonday – Holly Sweet

Holly Sweet Yuma (1)I am really excited for today’s #MediaMonday blog post as I connected with Holly Sweet via the work that HMA Public Relations does with two of our clients in Yuma, the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) and Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH). Anytime I am in Yuma I try to connect with Holly to have coffee at one of the many Starbucks in the city or catch dinner in the upcoming downtown district.

Holly, originally from Georgia, is a multimedia journalist, reporter and weekend anchor for KSWT 13 On Your Side, the CBS affiliate in Yuma.

So, Holly, time to share!

What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?

I grew up near Chattanooga, Tenn. in the tiny town of Chickamauga, Ga. After graduating from Ringgold High School, I attended the University of Georgia and studied digital and broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in new media. After graduating Cume Laude, I moved to Yuma to pursue a career in communications as a multimedia journalist. I am also currently the weekend anchor.

Holly Sweet Yuma (2)The stories I love to cover are breaking news i.e. crime or accidents, but I also enjoy the area of human interest, because I get to learn about so many different people and their accomplishments/experiences.

In my free time, I enjoy exercising/doing yoga, cooking healthy meals, travelling to new places and doing anything I can outdoors. I also enjoy trying new restaurants and bars — I’m such a foodie.

I will never forget the moment that I knew what I wanted to do “when I grew up.” Peter Jennings was anchoring World News Tonight. I was probably eight or nine, and I thought to myself, “I want to do that. I want to tell stories on television when I grow up.” From that moment, my mind was made, and the lifelong dream motivated me to never give up and to stay focused on my goals.

Fast forward almost 15 years later, and my childhood dream is now a reality. I have the incredible opportunity to cover a variety of stories, from the U.S./Mexico border to the area’s three military bases. The most rewarding part of my job is meeting so many different people and telling their stories accurately and creatively.

I am excited to see where my career takes me and who I get to meet along the way.

Please feel free to contact me anytime at holly.sweet@kswt.com. I would love to hear from you!
