Game of Thrones Grammar Lesson

Grammar LessonGrammar nerds and dragon nerds, rejoice!
Buzzfeed and a few others picked up on a little grammar lesson that has been given repeatedly during Game of Thrones – less versus fewer. Thank you, Ser Davos!
If you missed the lessons, check them out here and here.
For those unfamiliar with Ser Davos, this lesson is especially poignant because at the beginning of the series the character is nearly illiterate. In season three young Princess Shireen offered to teach him. She had a lot of time on her hands on account of the Greyscale, so she reached out to her Davos – her dad’s closest ally – to help him. He clearly took the lessons seriously. (For those keeping track, once dear old dad did THIS to Shireen in season five, Ser Davos changed alliances, understandably. He is now with King of the North, Jon Snow).
And for those unfamiliar with less versus fewer: “fewer” is to be used when discussing countable things, while “less” is used for singular mass nouns. For example, you can have fewer ingredients, dollars, people, or puppies, but less salt, money, honesty, or love. If you can count it, go for fewer.
