#FunFactFriday – January, How About Those Resolutions?

ResolutionsWe have officially reached the end of the first week of the New Year! How’s it been so far? We hope you all had a fantastic holiday break and were able to spend some much-needed time with your loved ones. But now, it’s back to reality and the question that is on everyone’s minds is, “will my New Year’s resolutions actually stick this year?” We certainly hope so!
To help motivate you, here are some things you may not have known about resolutions.

  1. Only about 45% of Americans actually make a New Year’s resolutions—don’t get stuck in the nonparticipating half!
  2. As much as it pains me to inform you of this, you need to know. Most people fail to adhere to their New Year’s resolutions. In fact, around 22% fail after one week, 40% after one month, 50% after three months and 60% after six months! But not you, right?
  3. Around 38% of people claim to NEVER make a resolution. How hip of them.
  4. Of those able to achieve their resolutions, only about 40% are successful on the first try. The rest take multiple attempts with as much as 17% taking over six tries.
  5. But why are so many failing? The number one reason is a lack of clear goal. For example, it’s better to state, “I plan on losing 15 pounds by May 1st” rather than, “I’m trying to be healthier.” Go over the specifics with yourself!

If you’re anything like me, maybe you haven’t even committed to a New Year’s resolution quite yet! Procrastinators rejoice, for I have found this year’s top  New Year’s resolutions for you to choose from.

  1. Improve your fitness (obviously)
  2. Eat better (even more obvi)
  3. Quit smoking
  4. Quit drinking
  5. Learn something new
  6. Travel more (top of my list!)
  7. Volunteer
  8. Meet someone (as if it just “happens”)
  9. Sleep more
  10. Get out of debt

Whatever the case, we wish you the best of luck in sticking with your 2018 resolutions. And Happy New Year!
