The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health Consultation Department Recertifies Raytheon Missile Systems’ Palo Verde Site with Voluntary Protection Program STAR Designation

(Phoenix, Ariz.) –The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) Consultation Department recently recertified Raytheon Missile Systems’ Palo Verde Site as a “STAR Site” through its Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).  Companies who are awarded the STAR designation demonstrate exemplary and comprehensive, safety and health management systems.

VPP is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) highest program of recognition across all United States OSHA organizations. It recognizes employers and workers in private and federal workplaces who have exemplified effective safety and health management systems to achieve injury and illness rates more than 50 percent below the national average.

“Raytheon’s has a strong commitment to safety and is noticeable with the four locations in Tucson that are recognized as STAR sites,” said Jessie Atencio, assistant director and consultation and training program manager for ADOSH. “Their team should be proud of the safe working environment that is part of the culture.”

“Raytheon works diligently to maintain a safe and secure workplace for all of its employees,” said John Patterson, Raytheon Missile Systems spokesman. “This recognition as a “STAR” site is further validation that our efforts are paying dividends.”

To qualify for VPP status, employers must submit an application to OSHA and undergo an onsite evaluation by a team of safety and health professionals. VPP participants and sites earning the “STAR Site” designation are re-evaluated every three to five years in order to remain in the program. VPP participants are exempt from OSHA programmed inspections while they maintain their VPP status.

Other VPP STAR designation sites in Tucson include Johns Manville, Honeywell, Fluor Facility & Plant Services and Granite Construction Company.

Currently, 34 Arizona companies are VPP “Stars” and they include: Central Arizona Project; Cintas Corporation; Ducommun LaBarge Technologies; Fluor Facility & Plant Services; Forever Resorts/North Rim Grand Canyon, LLC ; Frito Lay Service Center; General Electric Company/Mobile Water Inc.; Granite Construction Company; Hamilton Sundstrand; Honeywell Aerospace Avionics Product Center; Honeywell Aerospace Service; Honeywell Aircraft Landing Systems; Honeywell Defense & Space; Honeywell Engines & Systems; Hunt Construction Group; Hunter Douglas, Inc.
