SUBWAY® Restaurants of Arizona Donates 300 Meals to Special Olympics Arizona Healthy Athletes MedFest Event

SUBWAY® Restaurants of Arizona, in partnership with Coca-Cola and Frito-Lay, were proud to donate 300 lunches to Special Olympics Arizona’s First-Ever Healthy Athletes MedFest event, which took place on Friday September 11 at A.T. Still University in Mesa. During the event, University faculty and students performed more than 300 free sports physicals on local Special Olympics athletes. The Mesa Fire Department, Mesa Police Department and Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman also took part in the special event.

“It was so impactful to see physicians, clinicians and students working together to gather medical histories and then provide everything from musculoskeletal and orthopedic testing, to abdominal examinations and cardio respiratory evaluations. They even performed hearing and dental screenings,” said Chad Barnett, a SUBWAY franchisee and chairman of the local SUBWAY Advertising Board.

This partnership is just one way in which the local SUBWAY franchisees are committed to Special Olympics Arizona. In May, SUBWAY donated more than 1,300 lunches for athletes and volunteers taking part in the 2015 Special Olympics Summer Games in Peoria. And, throughout the summer, SUBWAY Restaurants across Arizona have been raising funds for Special Olympics Arizona through a program called “You Share, We Share,” with the goal of donating more than $50,000 to organization this fall.
