Junior Achievement of Arizona Student Wins Achievement Foundation’s Joe Francomano Scholarship

Junior Achievement of Arizona (JAAZ) has announced that JAAZ student Nick Welthy of Gilbert has been awarded the Achievement Foundation’s Joe Francomano Scholarship. The scholarship will award Welthy $5,000 per year for four years.

Welthy, who has worked in the JAAZ office as an intern and has participated in JA You’re Hired!  is a graduate of Highland High School.

Joyce Richards, JAAZ’s president, said the foundation has had a long-standing relationship with Junior Achievement.

“The Achievement Foundation, by using its financial resources, dedicates itself to the development of a better understanding of the free enterprise system by young people,” Richards said.  “We could not be more proud of Nick as he has been a tremendous asset here at JAAZ. We are excited to see what his future holds.”

Welthy is currently interning at Allstate Insurance and will attend American University in Washington, D.C. in the fall.

This scholarship is named after Joseph J. Francomano, who served Junior Achievement for more than 50 years, including 44 years as executive vice president. During his tenure,  Francomano was instrumental in ensuring the transition of Junior Achievement from after-school programs to in-school programs.
