Arizona Center for Cancer Care (AZCCC), a multispecialty group of Arizona’s most recognizable names in cancer treatment and technology, is pleased to announce it has officially partnered with Arizona Radiation Oncology Specialists (AROS), which currently provides radiation oncology treatment in Gilbert, Deer Valley and Scottsdale, as well as Arizona Breast Cancer Specialists (ABCS), which solely focuses on the treating women with breast cancer.

Together, the newly combined group will offer customized cancer care at 20 total offices Valleywide under the ABCS and AZCCC brands. As part of the merger, all AROS facilities – including the office located at 3645 S. Rome Street in Gilbert – will expand their treatment capabilities to now offer extensive gynecologic and medical oncology as well as hematology.

“We are very excited to bring the division of gynecologic oncology at Arizona Center for Cancer Care to Gilbert,” says Dr. Ivor Benjamin, who is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology with subspecialty certification in gynecologic oncology. “This will give us the ability to provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary services for the evaluation and treatment of female cancers including endometrial, ovarian, cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and gestational cancers.”

Dr. Benjamin specializes in minimally invasive surgery using the da Vinci surgical robot, and has performed more than 450 complex robotic gynecologic surgeries. He is medical director of the robotic surgery program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and serves as a robotic surgery proctor for training and skills certification of other surgeons throughout the country. Dr. Benjamin also is vice chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph’s, an associate professor at Creighton University School of Medicine at St. Joseph’s, and part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“Our team also provides access to the latest investigational therapy, and clinical trials from the Gynecologic Oncology Group and National Cancer Institute,” adds Dr. Dennis R. Scribner, Jr., who is board-certified in gynecologic oncology.

Dr. Scribner specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and has performed over 1,000 surgery cases. A recipient of numerous teaching awards and research grants, Dr. Scribner has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles. He earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut, and completed a residency at Hartford Hospital followed by a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma.

As the addition of gynecologic oncology brings new specialists to the area, so does the addition of medical oncology. Dr. Snehal Thakkar is AZCCC’s newest medical oncologist who dedicated the past several years of his life to providing care in underserviced regions of Arizona before making the move to the Valley. He will focus solely on providing care in Gilbert.

And finally, AZCCC also has medical oncologists who are specialists in hematology available to its Southeast Valley team with the ability to treat non-cancerous blood disorders, including hemophilia and malignancies such as lymphoma and leukemia.

“Together, we are now a cancer center without walls whose services stretch into every inch of this community, offering the East Valley with the best doctors, best treatment technologies and best research in the country,” says AZCCC partner Dr. Gregory Maggass, who has worked to help cancer patients in the area for more than 30 years. “Cancer is a disease of survivors – and we want to keep it that way.”
