“Solarific Day!” Sunny Energy Of Tempe Encourages Celebration Of Summer Solstice

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – June 21, 2018 – The Summer Solstice marks the onset of summer and the longest day of the year.  And according to Sunny Energy, an Arizona-based residential solar company, a “solarific” reason to celebrate all that is great about the Arizona sunshine.

Cunningham said there are some other things you should know:

• There are more than 100,000 residential solar energy systems in Arizona.
• June 21 is only one second longer than June 20, but it is four hours, 26 minutes and six seconds (15,966 seconds or 45 percent) longer than December 21, 2018. Sunrise to sunset on Dec. 21 is 9:56:10 and on June 21 it’s 14:22:16.
• The average sun-hours in Phoenix is 6.58. This means that there is an average of 6.58 kWh per square meter from the sun each day of the year.
• Putting this into perspective, a 1,000 square-foot roof (about 93 square meters) will receive an average of 612 kWh of solar energy every day, but the home may only use 50 to 100 kWh of electric energy each day. A solar PV system can help you put that energy to work so that you don’t have to purchase as much from utilities like APS or SRP.
• There is an average of 65 percent more solar energy available in the Phoenix area during the month of June than there is in December, the month when we typically have the least amount of solar energy.
• Location, orientation to the sun’s path, the tilt of solar panels in relation to the sun, temperature, the type of solar panels used, the type of inverter used, the quality of the installation and how well it is maintained and cleaned all contribute to how much energy is produced.
• This is why it’s important to have an experienced team design and install solar systems.
• The word solstice comes from the Latin word for Sun, or sol, and sistere, which means to come to a stop or stand still.

• On the day of the summer solstice, the Sun reaches its northernmost position as seen from the Earth.
• All over the world, the solstice happens at the same time.
• It’s the day in which the earth is the farthest from the sun throughout the course of the year.
• Although you have the most sunlight on this day, it is not the hottest day of the year. This day comes a few weeks or months after the solstice because it takes time for the oceans and landmasses to warm up, which leads to higher air temperatures.
• The day is celebrated all throughout the world with different dances, traditions, rituals, feasts and more to give thanks to the changing of the seasons and the beginning of the warmest period of the year.
