Greetings from the HMA intern desk! Katie here, reporting on – of all things – reporters.

Looks like 12 News is making some changes. So, I had to ask – what’s new on 12 News?

Effective last week, EVB Live was modified by 30 minutes to make room for a Lin Sue Cooney/Mark Curtis-helmed 5 p.m. offering. While still utilizing EVB correspondents for spot news and reports, the veteran anchors are focusing on providing breaking news, local and national headlines and in-depth sports/weather reports.

For those of you who, like me, love to catch up on several news items as once – this show has you covered with trending local news and upcoming topics scrolling on the right side and bottom of the screen.

Guests on the show thus far have included Cindy McCain, Coach Ken Whisenhunt, Marie Tillman and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was its first guest.

“One of the things that make this show different is that we’ll allow you to interact with our newsmaker guests,” said Curtis.

For example, when they had Sheriff Joe and his wife, Ava, live in studio, they asked questions from the 12 News and Mark Curtis Facebook Fan pages, respectively, and took a select few (rather safe) viewer calls.

Curtis has been promoting this show via social media on a daily basis. For now, he is welcoming questions about the show, guests or story ideas in his inbox. Just email him at

All in all, I like it so far. How about you? Is this a smart move in the 5 p.m. hour?
