Did you know this is National Volunteer Week? Yes, a whole week dedicated to recognizing the value and importance of volunteering. I think its pretty great, actually, that time is set aside for such a thing. After all, volunteers are usually the types that don’t do it for recognition or kudos – they do it because it is the right thing to do.
I’ve been volunteering for as long as I can remember. I’ve always felt it was important to give back to the community whether that be visits to the senior centers as part of Brownies and Girl Scouts, to outings with my Jewish youth group in high school to my current involvement with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
People ask how I find the time to volunteer. I’m busy with work here at the agency, but when you feel passionate about something there is always time. In fact, our entire team found the time throughout 2010 to volunteer for 30 different organizations to commemorate our 30th anniversary.
So whatever your passions are, I commend you for volunteering and salute you for your efforts. There are kids who have received their favorite wish, at-risk girls with new pajamas and a book to read, animals that have been adopted and food bank shelves that are filled thanks to you.
