The event “the Super Bowl” is always a fun time for those that are football fans and those that are not (aka the fans of the commercials). I am going to be honest, last Friday when I was asked who I was rooting for in the big game I had to Google who was playing and make a quick determination. I am obviously one who watches the game for the commercials (in fact, on Sunday- I would get up and do things when the game was playing and make it back just for the commercials).
So, it was great (for me) when Monday morning in the HMA office the conversation quickly turned from the game to the commercials. The consistent theme was that the commercials this year just did not impress us and we were all quite disappointed. We then started discussing the best Super Bowl commercials of all time and we wanted to share that with you.
So to kick it off, hands down my favorite was the The Force: Volkswagen Commercial from 2011 when “Darth Vader” goes outside and uses the force on his dad’s car! This might be because I have a huge Star Wars fan that runs around the house in costumes all the time – but it still makes my heart melt every time I watch it!
Abbie said “I have always liked Budweiser’s Clydesdale commercials, so when Rachel asked us to pick out our favorite Super Bowl commercial, I knew it would be one of them. This spot aired during the Super Bowl in 2002 to pay respect to New York City following 9-11. The second spot aired on the 10th anniversary. Maybe even more moving as it shows the change in the New York skyline since that tragic day.”
Both Alison & Katie are huge basketball fans so no surprise here that they both picked their favorite as the Showdown - Larry Bird v. Michael Jordan McDonalds Ad from 2012! Katie added that she also likes it because Michael Jordan’s outfit is just awesome.
Kelly’s favorite is the M&M’s "Love Ballads" With Glee's Naya Rivera because talking M&M’s always make her laugh!
Surprisingly Scott had a tie between two 2014 spots: The first is Budweiser “Puppy Love” spot because he has a puppy named Lambeau that looks like the dog in the commercial and Coke’s “Going All The Way” spot which Adrian runs into Lambeau Field (The fact that Scott has been to Lambeau Field in Green Bay three times also tilts the emotional scale for him)!
So now we want to know: Were you impressed with the commercials this year and what is your favorite Super Bowl commercial of all time?
