This morning, Alison had the chance to attend what we think is the first-ever live television tweet-up in Arizona!

It was held by ABC 15’s Now@9 Team, whose show focuses on several topical issues – from sports to entertainment to business to community news – and asks viewers and followers to interact with the program via social media on Facebook and Twitter.

Given the focus of the show, it was only natural they would put together a tweet-up for their loyal fans. And, as all of us communications folks know, it was a brilliant promotional move as well.

But how successful was it? Alison had the chance to talk to ABC15’s own Chris Kline after the show to get some insight:

According to Kline, during the hour-long tweet-up, they saw nearly 500 unique tweets come in about Now@9 using the hashtag #now9 – more than any other day in the show’s history. They also set the goal of attracting 100 guests to come to the event, reaching it and then some.

“A real Arizona community has developed here, and we want to help foster it,” said Kline. “This is the first of many social media events we hope to be a part of to continue building community in Arizona.”

In addition to reaching their first two initial measurable goals above, the station hopes to encourage viewers who haven’t yet made the leap to Twitter and/or Facebook to join in the conversation via the event.

And, while not a specific goal, they did hope to become a trending topic in Phoenix, which happened at about the 40-minute mark.

“For anyone who hasn't yet followed @ABC15 on Twitter or Facebook, we invite you to join us, check out our bout that… a new tweet almost every 10 seconds for an entire hour,” said Kline.

For Alison, the event was more than a chance to get an up close and personal look at the show and to sing-a-long with live carolers! It was a chance to see friends just in time for the holidays.

She was pleasantly surprised to see dozens of local media peeps, Phoenix PRSA and Buzzcation folks in tow including:

lafinguy – who got a front row seat!

SherryButlerPR – who won an iPad!
