We all know I am a huge sports fan so anytime I can talk public relations and anything sports-related, I do.

Today, I just want to ask one thing…

Whose public relations team is handling the NFL collective bargaining agreement and potential lockout better – the owners or the players’ union?

I go back and forth.

Most recently, I was surprised that the players (in fact, Arizona Cardinals own Jay Feely) managed to “leak” the Panthers owner’s condescension of Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. But, during the Superbowl, I was impressed with the regular communication the NFL commissioner was giving to nationwide media.

And now, it seems both sides scored some positive public relations as they announced last night they would start seven straight days of talks and use a mediator.

What do you think? Who is “winning?”

Or, are we all just losing no matter the communications strategy until this whole mess is settled?

As a Cards season-ticket holder, we already received a letter detailing the teams concern for us, for the safety of players, and putting a quality product out for us. They did invoke the economy as the reason for reigning in rookie salaries and bonuses. They were also concerned for the health and retirement of former players. Both sides are greedy and fans are the ones who will lose, but not financially as the players and owners will. I got a call from the Rattlers last week. They just wanted to let me know I could get Arena Football season tickets just in case there was a lock-out. I’m not sure who sold them the season-ticket holder list……..

Wow – so now there is another wrinkle…how the communucations and promotioms teams of other sports are working proactively already. Awesome comment, Dave!
