#MediaMonday – Anita Helt

Each Monday, we are posting a blog to help our readers get to know the media just a little bit better.
With a TWIST!
No, we aren’t posting story pitch tips or media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week!
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from ABC15’s new Vice President & General Manager Anita Helt.
So, Anita, time to share!
What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today
If anyone would have told me a year or more ago I’d be working at ABC15 in any capacity, I’d have told them they’re crazy.  But I’ve found that generally just when I think I have things all figured out, life often has a way of moving me right where I belong.  And that’s exactly where I am today at ABC15.  I spent much of the last year as President & General Manager of KXTV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Sacramento.  Prior to that, I served as VP of Programming & Marketing at KPNX-TV, 12 News, here in the Valley.
What initially interested me in this position was a chance to continue on my career track as a general manager and come home to the family I love most.  What excites me is the team I’ve met at ABC15 and the passion and professionalism they bring to their jobs every day.  I’ve spent my first few days starting to meet with every employee individually to get their ideas on how we can best move the station forward.
I believe responsible, local journalism is needed now more than ever.  Like many of you, it’s what attracted me to this business in the first place.  With a very strategic brand focus that’s consistently executed, a willingness to be bold and in partnership with the community, we’re committed to helping make Arizona a better place to live.
Thanks to everyone in the Valley who has welcomed me home; I’ve been overwhelmed by your kindness.  I’m especially touched by my 12 News family, a class organization lead by and made up of outstanding people.  It’s great to be home and I can’t wait for what the next chapter brings.
